To move freely we need longevity of healthy tissue to withstand impact. This is often overlooked when we talk about health and even more so the human body.

How do you move?

What causes pain or discomfort?

Recognizing our health is reliant our ability to function in space without stress on our joints allows us to take a proactive approach. You want to keep this in mind, especially when we talk about joints.

What’s a joint?

A joint can be defined by the joining of two limbs to provide articulation or movement of the body. Movements such as turning, twisting, rotating parts of the body all involve joints. You are not able to function without healthy joints.

Walking, jumping, running, pushing, pulling even brushing your teeth all involve the use of joints and various ones for the human body.

Quick Fact

Over 200 joints are in the human body.

What’s joint pain?

Well joint pain on the other hand involves a series of physiological effects that notify the body of a negative external or internal stress on the tissue. If your body faces any type of physical trauma it may end up with some sort of pain or discomfort.

Common Cause of Joint Pain include:

  • Trauma, Injury & Impact – Direct trauma to a joint can produce mild to severe cases of joint pain. High impact movement patterns along with direct contact can lead to prolonged periods of pain.
  • Excessive Weight – Physical weight has a demand on the musculoskeletal system which can impact joints. Maintaining an ideal body weight can be used to reduce stress on the body and ensure proper joint health.
  • Muscle Tightness – Tightness of muscle tissue can cause a structural pull on the muscle around joints. Growing in tension can further increase joint pain overtime leading to chronic issues.
  • Muscle Weakness – A decline in strength can also link to recurring joint pain issues. By reducing weakness overall of the muscle around the joint you can enhance joint health.

What can we do to reduce joint pain?

  • To reduce joint pain a few methods could be implemented directly:
  • Increase strength based routines in lifestyle regiment
  • Focus on a mobility and massage treatment plan to reduce tightness
  • Manage weight through general physical activity
  • Follow through on entire recovery plan post injury or traumatic event

Now remember everything that pertains to the body connects. When you are focused on reducing joint pain you need to find the source of the problem and then work backwards. Often times it is poor movement patterns repeated over time which ends up creating future problems. Look at the body and then determine what steps need to be take to benefit the body.
