I am a big believer in charity.

The value community organizations play in society is paramount. Especially to those create real long lasting impact in the areas they serve. Instead of writing my usually fitness and health based article I wanted to showcase a Brampton organization I had the pleasure of working with January 2017.

The Knights Table.

My experience with them was like no other.

Over the holidays I had an idea to find  a way to give back to Brampton and Peel community in appreciation to the impact New Persona has made in the lives of our members. Researching a number of options the Knights Table came to mind.

Established in 1990 they are serving an outstanding need providing quality food sources, meal options and various impactful health leadership based programs.

All starting from the vision of Cecil Peters and the influence of his daughter.

From the tour I received they started as a soup kitchen and now have grown to so much more.

Here is a list of the Knights Table’s programs:

  • First Bite Program – provides clients with a nutritious breakfast free of charge * Mon-Sun 8 am-10 am
  • Cecil’s Kitchen – helps anyone who needs a warm meal during the day * Mon-Fri 12 noon-6 pm * weekends & holidays 12 noon-4 pm
  • Our Pantry – provides emergency food supplies to vulnerable families in the community * on registration, eligible families can take a weekly food bank supply * Wed-Fri 12 noon-3 pm * closed on weekends
  • Good Neighbour Program – surplus bread and baked goods (donated by local grocery stores) are delivered on site * any family may take these items home, free of charge * Mon-Fri 8 am-10 am; 12 noon-6 pm * weekends & holidays 8 am-10 am; 12 noon-4 pm
  • Kids Just Want To Have Fun (KJW2HF) – seasonal kids camps (March Break and summer) for deserving children who are looking for fun, friends, and exciting experiences * call for registration information
  • Holiday Hampers – provides holiday hampers to needy families (food, toys and clothing that have been generously donated over the year)
  • Volunteer opportunities Must be 16 years old; Minimum 3 month commitment; Call to attend orientation – after orientation is interest remains you will be asked to attend an interview – please bring completed forms to interview (Volunteer Registration, Volunteer Agreement & Volunteer Policy guide) also most recent resume and 3 references.

The food bank was one of my final destinations.

In this case our members were able to start one of our Corporate Community Collaborations – New Persona’s Seasonal Food Drive. Delivering canned beans, pasta, cereals, sauces and much more.

For those of you who may want to help out. I would highly recommend it. No matter the amount given an impact is made.
